Hundreds of new and gently used coats, along with some cash donations, came into the Brevoort House yesterday as part of the annual “Coats for Kids” drive. For the last several yers, the annual effort is co-sponsored by the Knox County Salvation Army and TOC Direct Media. Even with that, they did not reach their goal of 250 donated coats yesterday.
Knox County Salvation Army commander Joey Gates says the coats that were donated will be taken to a Vincennes-based dry cleaner. Gates also reminds everyone the Coats for Kids drive is, in some ways, similar to the annual Salvation Army Christmas kettle campaign.
As a rule, the coat donations usually happen as part of registration for the Salvation Army’s holiday basket campaign. More information on that is expected in the weeks to come.
