The Vincennes Redevelopment Commission has approved an economic development agreement for the Firehouse Flats development. The proposed apartment complex is planned for the municipal parking lot north of Vigo Street between Third and Fourth Streets.
The R-D-C held a public comment session before the vote. Speakers both for and against the project voiced their opinions on the project and its location. Knox County Clerk-Treasurer Cathy Lane criticizes a perceived lack of transparency for both City officials and opponents in the platting process. Some organizational leaders spoke for the placement as it is currently propsed. One of those was Vincennes University president Chuck Johnson.
Others who opposed the Firehouse Flats plans did not necessarily oppose the idea of downtown housing. However, they did oppose its placement on the City’s municipal parking lot.
