The issue of a needed wheel tax is back before Knox County and various municipal government agencies. The State of Indiana is mandating the tax for preferred funding for streets and highways.
Wheel taxes would be charged for residents of taxing areas when they get or renew their license plates. Knox County Council president Mike Morris says this charge, in his view, is inevitable.
Morris knows the surcharge won’t be popular, but is required to keep improving the County’s roads.
At this time though, no official action toward the surcharge has come through any government agency in the County.
