The Knox County Council has approved a preliminary resolution for a ten-year property tax reduction for the Iona Solar, LLC project in Harrison Township. The solar facility is an estimated 800 million dollar project, with field and battery storage. The resolution would make the land an Economic Revitalization Area, with tax money captured for redevelopment funding.
Among the areas to benefit from the E-R=A are the South Knox School Corporation, and the Harrison Township Fire Department . The Economic Revitalyearsization Area will be in place for ten years.
This is only the first step toward the area’s approval. Council members remind everyone there will be public hearings on the issue; it will also go before the Knox County Area Plan Commission for their review in the future.
The vote to approve was 6-0, with Councilman Kevin Meyer abstaining from the vote.
