Cathy “Frye” Richie, age 64, born May 21, 1961, in Vincennes, Indiana, passed away on May 14, 2026, in Vincennes, Indiana, her hometown. She lived her life with warmth, humor, and a generous spirit, and she will be remembered always for the kindness she showed to others and the deep devotion she had for her loved ones.
Cathy was a beloved mom and nana whose greatest joy came from being with her family. She especially loved her grandbabies, Bria, Jace, Spencer, Lincoln, Eden, and Kaylyn, and treasured every moment spent cuddling them, laughing with them, and watching them grow. Her daughters, Celesta Almy (Joshua “Mmkay” Newt) and Shawanna Malott (Kirsten), were among the greatest blessings in her life, and she was proud of the family they built. She also shared a special bond with her mother, Norma “Russell” Myers, and found comfort and strength in the love of her siblings, Deborah Williams, Linda Frye, Lisa Foster, and Willie Myers. Cathy was also deeply loved by her best friend, Rick Boger, and by her faithful dog, Patches, along with her granddogs, Luna and Nala. Cathy also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember her with love and gratitude.
Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Donald Frye Sr., her siblings Donald Frye Jr. and Lorie Davis, her stepfather, Ralph Myers, her nephew Steven Harper Jr., and her angel grandbabies. Though her family carries the sorrow of her passing, they also carry the many memories of her laughter, her caring heart, and the comfort she gave so freely to those around her.
For many years, Cathy worked as a prep cook for Garfield’s Restaurant and Pub, where she remained dedicated throughout her time there. She also served as a resident assistant at Colonial Assisted Living Community, where her compassion and steady presence were appreciated by residents and coworkers alike. In every role she held, Cathy brought strong dedication and a genuine compassion for others.
Outside of work, Cathy enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life special. She loved solving crosswords and gardening, and she found joy in paranormal stories and thunderstorms. She especially loved sitting in her porch swing and drinking sweet tea, taking in the peace of the moment. Cathy loved to cook and took pride in teaching her recipes to her daughters and grandchildren, passing along not only meals but memories and traditions. One of her favorite ways to spend time with family was watching South Park together while enjoying her favorite, white cheddar popcorn, a small tradition of laughter and togetherness that will be forever cherished by those she loved.
Cathy Richie will be remembered as a loving mother, nana, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, whose presence brought comfort and joy to many. Her life was marked by devotion to family, a love of home, and a heart that gave freely to others. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
