The Vincennes City Council approved a Downtown Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA, on a five-two vote at last night’s session. Councilmen Ryan Lough and Ed Gornall cast the no votes.
Lough and Gornall wanted to send the issue to the Public Safety Committee for more public discussion. At last night’s session, Lough called his request a chance to “slow down” the issue. Ellen Harper is among those behind the DORA designation; she says it allows for more nightlife and progress downtown.
The designation allows people to take alcoholic beverages from downtown locations across the designated downtown area. Only those beverages in specified cups will be available for carrying outside of the establishments into the DORA zone.
