Mary Ann “Johnson” Cress, age 68, of Bicknell, Indiana, passed away on April 16, 2026. She was born on June 11, 1957, in Cannelton, Indiana, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, kindness to others, and a steady faith that guided her throughout her years.
Mary Ann attended the business college in Vincennes and carried the values of hard work and responsibility into every part of her life. On December 9, 1979, she married her husband, Jerry Cress, in Edwardsport, Indiana. She worked as the clean paint supervisor for Silver Rentals, where she was respected for her dedication and dependable nature.
Family was the heart of Mary Ann’s life. She loved her children deeply and took great pride in her role as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Jerry L. Cress Jr. (Lisa) of Bruceville, Indiana, Lee Cress of Vincennes, Indiana, and Sharon Foster of Vincennes, Indiana. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her great joy. She is further survived by her brothers, Ed Johnson (Jane) of Sullivan, Indiana, and Dave Johnson (Bette) of Edwardsport, Indiana, as well as her sister-in-law, Melissa Johnson.
Mary Ann was known as a very giving person and a mother to all. She had a caring spirit that extended beyond her immediate family, and she was always willing to help, listen, and offer comfort. Her love for her grandchildren was especially evident, and she cherished every opportunity to care for them and spend time with them. Those who knew her will remember her warmth, her generosity, and the way she made others feel welcome and valued.
She also found strength and comfort in her faith and loved attending church at Bicknell Nazarene Church. Her church family was an important part of her life, and she treasured the fellowship and encouragement she found there.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Ed M. Johnson Sr. and Mary “Kellems” Berryman, her husband, Jerry Cress, and her brother, William Johnson. Though her passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who loved her, her memory will continue to live on through the family she cherished and the many lives she touched. She will be remembered with love, gratitude, and lasting affection by all who were blessed to know her.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 11:00 to 1:00, at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Bicknell Chapel. Service will follow at 1:00, officiated by Pastor Seth Alexander. Burial will take place at Salem Cemetery in Westphalia, Indiana at a later date.
