The Dubois County Museum will host a Military Appreciation Day program on Sunday, August 12.  The Museum will be open from 1-4pm, with the special program beginning at 1:30pm.  Master of Ceremony for the program will be Ronald Himsel.  The theme of the program is “Our American Flag:  What does it mean to you?”  After Patriotic music and songs provided by pianist Sarah Sergesketter and vocalist/song leader Paula Alles, and a welcome by museum Board President Amy Weyer, speakers will include William Weikert, speaking on Bosnia; father and son Joseph L. and Nathan Verkamp speaking on their service,  a generation apart; Father Matheas Langston, O.S.B., relating his experience as chaplain in Berlin when the Cold War ended; and Randy Mills, co-author with his wife,  Roxanne Mills, of the book: Summer Wind: A Soldier’s Road from Indiana to Vietnam.   Mr. Mills will have a book signing with his book before and after the program.  Refreshments will follow the program.

Randy and Roxanne Mills tell the story in their book, Summer Wind: A Soldier’s Road from Indiana to Vietnam about the life of Princeton, Indiana soldier, Dick Wolfe, who died in Vietnam on January 6, 1968.  The story is told through the lens of family letters, interviews with Dick’s family, friends, and soldier comrades and other primary sources. Much of the book’s scope is the correspondence shared between Dick and his mother, Rosemary.  Rosemary and her family grew up in Princeton and she played the organ for over seventy years at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Princeton.

Also during this time at the museum, the Indiana Historical Society exhibit:  One Shot:  the WWII Photography of John A. Bushemi in on display. Follow WWII through the eyes of Gary, Indiana native and war photographer Bushemi.  Be sure to check out the exhibit before it ends on August 31 at the museum.
