The Knox County Council is working on a financial plan to budget a new set of buildings to house various County agencies. The three[phase program will result in two new structures. They include the Emergency Operations Center on the former Poor Farm lot, and a new Judicial Center in place of the former Knox County Jail. The building is the current home of E-911 in Knox County; it is located across from the Courthouse on 8th Street. Knox County Council president Rich Chattin says doing the project in phases makes it more affordable.
The design plans are in the hands of the Knox County Commissioners. Chattin believes the first structure will be a long-needed replacement for the old Poor Farm building.
After that is complete, the next move would be to replace the old Jail with a Judicial Center. The final part to the plans is a 150-thousand dollar renovation to the Knox County Courthouse.
