The Vincennes City Council has passed the City’s 2027 budget on first reading during last night’s session at City Hall. The next budget will have some cuts in it, due to reduced revenue from a statewide set of property tax cuts. The available budget amount for the coming year is just under 24 million dollars.
Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum knows even with the budget adoption passed in first reading, more budget cuts are likely– including a reduction of elimination of yearly raises. Mayor Yochum says curbside recycling could fall victim to the loss of revenue in this year’s budget.
At this point, the adopted tax rate for Vincennes is over three dollars, 39 cents per hundred dollars in assessed property value. However, that number can be adjusted downward by state officials when they review the final budget to be approved by Vincennes City Council.
