Sheila K. Snyder went to meet the Lord on September 4, 2026, in Vincennes, Indiana, at the age of 74.
She was born on April 11, 1952, in Vincennes, Indiana, to the late Pansy Hatcher Welton and Sherman Welton. Sheila lived her life with grace, kindness, and devotion to the people she loved. She was a lifelong resident of the Vincennes area and carried with her a deep appreciation for family, faith, and friendship throughout her life.
Sheila was a graduate of St. Rose Class of 1970, and she remained close to many of her classmates over the years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and good friend, and she treasured the memories and fellowship she shared with those from her school days. Her warm spirit and steady presence made her a blessing to all who knew her.
Sheila was employed as a Cancer Registry Coordinator for Good Samaritan Hospital, where she served with dedication and care. Her work reflected her compassion and her commitment to helping others. She was respected for her professionalism and for the kindness she showed to those around her.
Sheila was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where her faith was an important part of her life. She found strength and comfort in her church family and lived her beliefs through the way she cared for others. Her faith guided her through life and gave her peace in times of joy and sorrow alike.
Sheila enjoyed camping, old cars, birds, and spending time outdoors. She had a special love for family gatherings and took great joy in attending all of her grandchildren’s events. Her happiest moments were often those spent surrounded by the people she loved most. She especially cherished time with her family and created lasting memories that will be held close by those who knew her best.
Sheila is survived by her husband, Gary Snyder; her children, Troy Snyder and his wife Angie of Ft. Wayne, and Tracie Smith and her husband Archie of Wheatland; her grandchildren, Trevor Snyder and his wife Alexa, Lucas Snyder, Elijah Smith, Emily Smith, and Ellie Smith; one great-grandchild, Conway Snyder; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Eugene Welton, Jerry Welton, Kenneth Welton, Mike Welton, and Delbert Chansler Jr.; and two sisters, Rose Thompson and Joyce Welton.
Those who knew Sheila will remember her as a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, faithful friend, and woman of strong character. Her life was marked by love, loyalty, and quiet strength.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church to be officiated by Father Tony Ernst. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
