Recent studies have shown that nearly nine in every ten Indiana student is proficient in reading by the end of the third grade. That is shown by their passing of the I-READ requirement before they can move to fourth grade.
Jasper State Senator Darryl Schmitt gives some Legislative moves he feels are responsible for that level of success. Schmitt also point to the high marks as a sign that all the parts in a child’s reading education are working together.
State education officials believe this early focus on literacy will boost Indiana students’ ability to be lifelong learners.
