The Knox County Council approved the minimum required amounts for both wheel and excise taxes for County vehicle owners. The wheel tax will be at $7.50 per vehicle once per year for passenger vehicles, with the excise tax totaling $5.00 for commercial vehicles over 11,000 pounds.
Councilman Rich Chattin made the proposal. He reminds everyone these levies are required to qualify for preferred state road funding.
The two minimum taxes will bring in around 300-thousand dollars in initial revenue for Knox County, not counting the guaranteed road money for Knox County. No one from the public spoke on the issue during a public hearing before the vote. Council passed the two taxes unanimously.
