Jan Marie “Christensen” Wonder, age 76, of Washington, Indiana, passed away on June 27, 2026, in Washington, Indiana. She was born on March 12, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Kenneth and JoAnn “Grimes” Christensen.
Jan lived a life marked by devotion, kindness, and steady care for the people around her. She graduated from Broadripple High School and carried the values of hard work and compassion throughout her life. On January 25, 1970, she married the love of her life, Jack Wonder, and together they built a family and a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
For 38 years, Jan served as a teacher’s aide for Washington Community Schools at North Elementary School, beginning in 1985. Her long career reflected her patience, warmth, and genuine concern for children. She was a familiar and trusted presence to many students, families, and coworkers, and her dedication left a lasting impression on the school community.
Outside of her work, Jan found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. She loved gardening, especially tending to her flowers and rose gardens. She also cherished her family deeply and had a special affection for animals, especially her pets and hummingbirds. She found happiness in caring for others, in the beauty of her surroundings, and in the comfort of home and family.
Jan is survived by her children, Michael Wonder (Amy) of Bloomington, Indiana, and Gena Drake (Steve) of Fairbanks, Indiana. She also leaves behind her four grandchildren, Nicholas and Gabrielle Wonder, and Tristan and Lexis Drake. Her family was the center of her life, and she took great pride in each of them. Her love, encouragement, and example will remain with them always.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wonder; her parents; and her sisters, Pamela Tilton and Toni Berry. Jan was also preceded by many loved ones who welcomed her into eternal rest.
Jan will be remembered for her gentle heart, her unwavering devotion to her family, and the many years she gave in service to her community. Those who knew her will remember her warmth, her kindness, and the love she shared so freely. Her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Jan will be inurned at Sugarland Memory Gardens at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Washington Community School Corporation.
