The family of Carolyn ‘Jane’ Harting is saddened to announce her passing on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at her home in Sandborn, Indiana. Jane was born on October 6, 1949, and transitioned out of this life peacefully to be with her Heavenly Creator, God the Father.
Jane touched many lives with her generosity, endless shared meals due to her love of cooking, and kind spirit. She worked her whole life in healthcare, where she gladly took care of the needs of others. Her last jobs before retirement were at Glenburn Nursing Facility in Linton, Indiana, and she retired from Daviess Community Hospital in Washington, Indiana. She was the ‘first’ qualified medical assistant (QMA) at Glenburn.
She is survived by her children, Robert “Bobby” Sweany, of Sandborn, Indiana, Shannon Grow, and Ryan Donohoo, both of Vincennes, Indiana; her grandchildren, Makayla Grow, Tiffany Sweany, Todd Risley, and Bethany Ice, who knew her as Nana Jane.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rickie Ray Harting, her parents, Virgil Dale Whittington and Roma “Blair” Teague, and her sister, Janice Bayless.
Jane loved writing poetry and had many of her poems published. She will be remembered for her warm heart, love of family, including her deep love for her sisters, Marcia, Joan, Sherrill, and Marilyn, and her special love of flowers and gardening.
Her legacy will forever bloom in the lives of all who knew her.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Vincennes Chapel. A service will follow at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Mike DeCoursey. Burial will conclude at Edwardsport Town Cemetery. Online condolences and fond memories may be made at www.fredrickandson.com.
