The City of Vincennes has agreed to lower the speed limit on Wabash Avenue near Franklin Elementary School. The speed limit will drop from 35 normally, and 25 with children present, to a normal 30 miles an hour and 20 with children present.
Vincennes City Engineer John Sprague made the announcement at the Vincennes Board of Works meeting. He told the Board an ordinance already in place allows for the 30 and 20 mile an hour school zone speed limits. He also hinted at increased law enforcement in that area to ensure the slower speeds in that area.
Sprague pointed to complaints about excessive speed on Wabash Avenue as a reason for the call for lower speed limits there.
