Martin “Marty” Dale Smith, 65, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 29th, 2026. Marty was born January 23, 1961, in Terre Haute, IN, to John and Marilyn (Martindale) Smith. Marty graduated from Rivet High School, where he ran track and cross country and even set some school records.
Marty served in the United States Army 11C Infantry from 1983 to 1986 and was stationed in Erlangen, Germany, where he drove an armored personnel carrier. He had many jobs, including Goodyear Tire, IV Coach, I & I Welding, and many farming jobs.
Marty was an avid NASCAR fan in his younger years, and “The Intimidator” was the man, and Sundays were for watching those races.
Marty enjoyed tinkering with old tractors and reading about old locomotive trains. He also liked action-packed movies. It was not out of the ordinary for you to find Marty at Wal-Mart stocking up on snacks and CD’s.
Marty is preceded in death by his parents, Marilyn and John Smith, and sisters Emily Bartley and Teri Ransom.
Marty is survived by his wife Pam Smith of Monroe City, his 4 children, Dennis Smith and his wife Alisha of Washington, IN, Tim Smith and his wife Daniella of Vincennes, IN, Natasha Coomes and her husband, Jeremy of Vincennes, IN, and Mallory Haney of Vincennes, IN. Ten grandchildren, Morgan Smith, Lucas Smith, Delaynee Coomes, Jaxon Smith, Rylan Coomes, Harper Coomes, Gannon Haney, Kinsley Smith, Daxton Lawrence, and Pierson Dale Haney. He was also expecting his first great-granddaughter this fall.
Marty is also survived by his brothers, Jerry Smith and his wife Denise of Monroe City, IN, and Jason Smith and his wife, Kathy of Terre Haute, IN, and his sister, Bobbi Alvis, and her husband, Brett of Monroe City.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Vincennes Chapel. Service will follow at 12:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Justin Brown. Burial will conclude at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by the All Weather Firing Squad.
