The issue of regulating future solar plants in Knox County continues to be a controversial topic. Various groups are arguing various items—with the biggest being a 300-foot setback for any new solar development in Knox County. Many are for the compromise, but a good number of others feel the setback should be moved to 500 feet or more. The Knox County Commissioners approved a 300 foot setback on first reading earlier this month.
Knox County Council president Mike Morris has kept up on the issue. Morris knows it is a controversial issue, but reminds everyone until fiscal issues come up, he and other Councilmen have no say in the matter. One thing Morris is glad to see is this issue so far has been hashed out in the open.
The next stop for the solar discussion is before the Knox County Area Plan Commission in April. The A-P-C will make a recommendation, and then it will go back to the Commissioners for a final decision later in April.
