A scaled-back bill allowing public schools to display the Ten Commandments has been approved by the state House Education Committee.
The bill leaves the decision to display the religious text up to individual schools.
The Ten Commandments would have been required to be displayed in classrooms and school libraries before the bill was amended.
A House vote is possible on the measure today.
