Indiana Senate Republicans are setting out their priorities in the current Legislative session in Indianapolis. This is the short—or non-budget—session for the General Assembly.
One of the top priorities is welfare program reforms. One of those is a bill to square Indiana’s welfare programs with national reforms. Jasper State Senator Darryl Schmitt feels a current Senate bill would meet the national mandate. The other major Senate bill this session is a proposed state constitutional amendment to expand bail denial for dangerous criminal suspects. Schmitt explains how the resolution would do just that.
As for the session itself, Schmitt expects it to end before the state-mandated deadline, and also to finish under budget.
