Michael Allen Melvin, age 74, passed away on December 18, 2025, in Oaktown, IN. Born on July 23, 1951, to the late Allen and Mary Alice “Davis” Melvin in Vincennes, IN, Mike was a kind and caring brother, uncle, and friend throughout his life.
Mike lived life to the fullest. He had a gift for making people laugh and helping everyone feel welcome, no matter the room he was in. An award-winning interior decorator and skilled appraiser, he had an incredible eye for beauty and an unmatched knowledge of history and antiques.
Throughout his life, he worked with auction companies and owned several antique stores, always chasing the thrill of a great auction, flea market, or garage sale.
Mike is survived by his three sisters, Angie Griggs Nolte (Nick), Peggy Skidmore (Mark), and Lorie Edwards (Dan), his nieces and nephews, Kimberly Griggs, Ryan Skidmore (Anessa), Megan Skidmore, Amanda Edwards Rath (Mitch), and Andrew Edwards, and several great-nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his nephew, Christopher Griggs, and his parents.
During the holidays, you could always find Mike in the kitchen, preparing meals with love and bringing the family together. He adored his sisters and spent his life making sure they were cared for and supported.
Mike was a dedicated worker and a true artist at heart—constantly creating, improving, and making the world around him a more beautiful place.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice.
