Joseph Patrick Smith, a loving and faith-filled man, left this world on November 17, 2025, at the age of 65. He was born on August 17, 1960, in Loogootee, Indiana, and passed away in Washington, Indiana, surrounded by the love of his family.
Joseph, affectionately known by many as Joe, graduated from high school and went on to pursue a life of faith and compassion for others. He managed a fulfilling career as a clerk for the Lighthouse Recovery Center, where he was admired for his dedication to helping others. He married the love of his life, Dianna Smith, who preceded him in death. Together, they shared a truly special bond, rooted in faith and love.
His survivors include his children, Patrick McIntyre and Daelean Skaggs, his cherished grandchildren, Izabel Skaggs, Sebastian Skaggs, Lucca Summers, and Kyrah Purcell, and his two precious great-grandchildren, Leo Rodriguez and Eliana Rivera. Joe was a beacon of light and wisdom for his family, and his unfailing love and guidance will be greatly missed.
Joseph was a passionate collector of antiques, each piece telling a story of the past. His weekends would often find him browsing yard sales, searching for hidden gems, and sharing stories with fellow enthusiasts. Joe found solace and strength in reading his bible, embracing the teachings of Jesus Christ with open arms. His dedication to his faith was reflected in the way he lived each day, always extending a helping hand and a friendly smile to all.
An active member of the Victory Community Church, Joseph’s presence was a testament to his faith-filled life. He served as a pillar of strength and support within his community, touching the lives of many with his unwavering kindness and warmth.
Joseph’s legacy is one of love, friendship, and devotion to his faith. He was the kind of man who made the world a better place simply by being in it. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him to live life with a compassionate heart and a generous spirit.
As we bid farewell to Joseph Patrick Smith, we hold tight to the memories and the light he leaves behind. His life was well-lived, and he will forever be remembered as a loving patriarch, a friendly face in the neighborhood, and a steadfast servant of his faith. There will be a visitation on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Fredrick and Son-Gill Funeral Home. A service will follow at 12:00 p.m., officiated by Ryan Parsons at Fredrick and Son-Gill Funeral Home. Per his request, Joe will be cremated.
