Siegfried Eberhard Schleicher, born on April 17, 1939, in Breslau, Germany, passed away at the age of 86 on November 13, 2025, in Vincennes, Indiana. Siegfried’s robust life was defined by his deep commitment to family, his unwavering work ethic, and his generous spirit that touched many lives within his community.
Siegfried was immensely proud of his roots and the life he built in Vincennes. His legacy includes his son, Chris Schleicher of Vincennes; his daughter-in-law, Cindy Schleicher; and his four grandchildren: Adam Schleicher of Nashville, TN; Erik Schleicher (Jess Briner) of Vincennes, IN; Curt Parker (Crystal) of Yorktown, VA; and Chelsea Schleicher of Evansville, IN. Siegfried was also a great-grandfather five times over and a great-great-grandfather to one, He was a beloved significant other to Annette Bell of Vincennes, IN, who, alongside her family, Brick Bell, Shannon Bowen, Kelly Bell, and their children joined Siegfried’s intimate circle of love in his later years. His siblings, Norbert Winkler of Indianapolis, IN, Harry Winkler of Petersburg, VA, Siglinde Moore of Minneapolis, MN, and Sigrun Roberts of Indianapolis, IN, each hold dear the memories shared with their brother. His passing was preceded by his wife, Margie “Craig” Schleicher, his parents, Eberhard and Edith Marie “Wiedemann” Schleicher Winkler, and his son, Mark Schleicher, and a daughter-in-law, Deidra Schleicher.
Educated and determined, Siegfried completed his high school career before embarking on a professional journey characterized by diligence and leadership. Married to Margie for over 47 years (who passed away in 2006), their union was a testament to unwavering love and compassion. Career-wise, Siegfried was a well-respected transportation and warehousing specialist. With a shrewd vision and innovative mindset, he steered Henderson Transfer with excellence as the owner, President, and CEO since 1968. His indelible impact on his community was recognized when he received the esteemed Dr. Shelton Humanitarian Award in 2013.
Beyond his business endeavors, Siegfried was deeply involved in the fabric of his community. His roles spanned serving as the past exalted ruler of the Elks at the Vincennes Elks Lodge and participating as a member and past president of the Harmony Society, a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and an active participant in the Vincennes Kiwanis Club and was Kiwanian of the Year in 2011. He continuously looked for ways to give back. His faith was an integral part of who he was; a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, he practiced his beliefs through service, including his involvement in Wreaths Across America, laying remembrance wreaths for fallen soldiers annually.
Siegfried’s departure leaves a void in the lives of those who knew him. Yet, his passion for life, legacy of leadership, and profound ability to nurture relationships ensure that his memory will live on. He was a pillar of strength, love, and charity whose essence will eternally inspire those fortunate enough to have been part of his extraordinary journey.
There will be a visitation on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Vincennes Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, officiated by Father Tony Ernst. Burial will conclude at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
