Robert Eugene Bond, age 84, of Oaktown, Indiana, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away in Evansville, Indiana, on September 11, 2025. Born in Oaktown, Indiana, on May 21, 1941, to Robert O. Bond and Josephine “Grubaugh” Harris, Robert’s life was one of dedicated service, unwavering love for his family, and kindness to all.
Robert’s journey began with his beloved wife, Janet Bond who he married in 1961 and they spent 64 years together and blossoms out to a family that includes his children, Tina Wolfe (David) of Edwardsport, IN, and Chad Bond of Vincennes, IN, as well as his daughter-in-law, Debbi Smith (Jay) of Oaktown, IN. His pride and joy were his five grandchildren, Nicole McClellan, Stacy Woolard, Kierra Bond, Cole Bond, and Dylan Bond; his three great-grandchildren; and his two great-great-grandchildren. Though he was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Bret Bond, and his sister, Rita Dupire, Robert’s memory will continue to be a guiding light for his family.
A proud graduate of Oaktown High School in 1959, Robert quickly found his calling when he graduated from Henderson, KY Barber School in December of the same year. His skilled hands and warm conversation were staples in the community as he worked as a barber for 55 years. His dedication to hard work extended to 32 years as a coal miner, where he was not only a valued team member but also an active member of the United Mine Workers of America Union 1410.
Robert served his country as a U.S. Air Force veteran, and he continued his commitment to leadership and service through his role as Post Master of the Masonic Lodge in Oaktown. His fellow Masons at the Lodge in Carlisle also felt his impact, as did the congregation of the Mariah Creek Christian Church, where he was a devout member.
An avid golfer and fisherman, Robert’s love for the outdoors was only eclipsed by his love for his family. He spent countless hours sharing his passions with his children and grandchildren, instilling in them the values of patience, resilience, and joy in the simple things.
Robert’s kindness and loving nature were known by many, and his actions always spoke louder than words. His legacy of love and his commitment to his community and family will be deeply missed.
As we commemorate the life of Robert Eugene Bond, his story remains a testament to a life well-lived, and those who knew him will continue to be inspired by his enduring dedication and warm heart.
