Cecil Pauline “Banks” Snyder, a cherished matriarch whose loving presence graced the lives of her family and friends for 98 years, passed away on August 29, 2025, in Vincennes, IN. Born on April 29, 1927, in Mt. Carmel, IL, to Charles Raymond and Sarah Opal “DeWitt” Banks, Pauline’s nurturing and loving spirit was evident from an early age.
Pauline led a life marked by dedication to her family and a strong work ethic. After receiving her education, Pauline demonstrated resilience and tenacity that led her to fulfilling work at Hamilton Glass and later at Fields Cleaners, where she was respected by all who worked alongside her.
Family was the cornerstone of Pauline’s life, as she married the love of her life, William C. Snyder, on May 17, 1946. Together, they built a legacy of love and commitment until William’s passing. Pauline’s family grew to include her devoted son, Gary Snyder (Sheila) of Vincennes, IN, and her cherished son-in-law, John Catt of Newburgh, IN, and her beloved sister-in-law, Judy Banks. She was the proud matriarch of a legacy of grandchildren that included Kathey Templeton, John Catt (Lisa), Renee Mize (Mike), Troy Snyder (Angie), and Tracie Smith (Archie), as well as two step-grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, fifteen great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom adored and respected her deeply.
While Pauline’s family was her pride and joy, her heart was also struck by sorrow with the loss of those she loved: her adoring parents, Charles and Sarah Banks, her precious husband William, her beloved daughter Dianne Catt, her dear son Danny Snyder, her caring daughter-in-law Joann Snyder, as well as her treasured siblings Helen Wilkinson, Lucille Sager, Betty Adams, Barbara Wright, Roberta Anthis Thomas, Jean Wirth, Raymond “Pete” Banks, Fred Banks, and David Banks.
Those who knew Pauline understood that time spent with family was her greatest interest. She brought love, joy, and a sense of togetherness at every family gathering, encapsulating the very essence of what it means to be loving. This sense was felt throughout every moment spent with her and leaves a legacy that will continue to touch the lives of her family for generations to come.
Pauline’s life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of family bonds. As her loved ones carry on her legacy, they will forever cherish the memories of her unwavering love and the warm, welcoming home she created for so many. Pauline’s journey on earth has ended, but the love and lessons she imparted remain to all who had the honor of knowing her. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those touched by her kindheartedness and loving nature.
There will be a visitation held on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Vincennes Chapel. A service will be held at 1:00 pm at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Vincennes Chapel, officiated by Doug Wirth. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
