Messmer Good on Trump, Not So Sure on Tariffs

8th District U.S. Representative Mark Messmer is praising President Donald Trump’s actions during his second term. The newly elected Congressman highlighted the President’s success in securing the southern border, pointing to a 97% drop in illegal border crossings.
      
Messmer also supports eliminating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs in the government, advocating for a colorblind, merit-based hiring system. However, when asked about the tariffs against Canada and Mexico that took effect Tuesday morning, Messmer expressed concern about their potential long-term impact on the U.S. economy.
