George Rogers Clark National Park in Vincennes will host the annual “Hamilton’s March” on Friday. The march is a chance to follow in the footsteps of British commander Henry Hamilton, as he took Fort Sackville in 1778. Hamilton would hold the fort for two months, until George Rogers Clark took the position from Hamilton in late February of 1779.
The march begins Friday at one p-m at the park’s Visitors’ Center. From there, carpools will take the trekkers to Kimmel Park, where Hamilton’s march likely started. The walk itself lasts around 2 miles back to the G-R-C; on the way, Chief Ranger Joe Herron will narrate the difficult journey Hamilton and his men had to the fort. The march is free, but registrations are recommended. You can register by calling 812-882-1776, extension1210.
