The first installment of property tax bills is about to go out across Indiana. This is the first set of taxes that will be affected by the Indiana Legislature’s property tax cut bill. That also means next year will be the first for municipal and county governments to fell the pinch of less tax revenue.
As he has said all along, Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum reminds everyone the City will have a hard time meeting the new financial reality. One of the strategies for the City to meet the shortfall is requiring Vincennes Water Utilities to make a payment in lieu of taxes, or PILOT. Further, Mayour Yochum also reminds everyone the V-W-U is considering a rate increase.
Vincennes Water Utilities officials are still looking at the numbers, and working with Vincennes City Council on the issue. Any proposed water or sewer rate increase must be passed by the V-W-U Board, with final approval required from the Vincennes City Council.
