The Knox County Council is waiting on the final road funding fallout from the State of Indiana for future paving grants. State lawmakers are looking at a funding formula to prefer communities and counties with “wheel tax” surgharges in place. At this time, neither Vincennes nor Knox County have a wheel tax in place.
In the past several years, Knox County has benefited from sizable funding from the Community Crossings Matching Grant—or C-C-M-G—program. Council president Mike Morris also praises the County Commissioners for using the money wisely. Morris is also getting the word out that any future road funding issues they face is out of their control.
Both Vincennes and Knox County governments are considering possible wheel taxes, but no action is being planned by either group at this time.
