High water is still the story on the White River—especially in southeast and southern Knox County.
The White at Petersburg is topping out at 8 ½ feet over flood stage. It will stay in moderate flood stage through at least Wednesday, with a forecast to drop below flood stage on Sunday, March 22nd. However, the flooding is about to end at Edwardsport; there, the river is forecast to be back in its banks on Monday.
The high White River is causing some flooding where it joins the Wabash, at Mount Carmel. The Wabash there will hit crest five feet over flood stage over the weekend, with minor flooding forecast through Friday.
People in low-lying areas affected by flooding should be aware of the conditions. Also, people driving in affected areas are reminded not to drive over flooded roads. So far, at least three incidents have been reported of vehicles being swept away by swift-moving waters on the White River during this flood season.
