Donald J Biggs, 96, of Vincennes passed away on February 19,2026 peacefully at his home. He was the son of John Emmett and Helen C. Keller Biggs. Donald graduated from Decker High School and was awarded the Outstanding Decker Alumni award in 2003. He then graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Civil Engineering. Along with being a professional civil engineer he was also a professional land surveyor. Don also spent some time farming and is an Army veteran who served in the Korean War.
After graduating from Purdue Don was employed with the Indiana State Highway for 33 years. Two accomplishments during his highway employment was being Project Engineer over a contract building the first tri-level bridge and another contract using the first time method of slip-form concrete paving in the state of Indiana. He became licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor doing private land surveying throughout Southwestern Indiana. He was a life time member of the Indiana Professional Engineers and the Indiana Professional Land Surveyors.
He was a life time member of the Knights of Columbus and belonged to the St Francis Xavier Catholic Parish of Vincennes. He was a long time board member of the Mount Calvary Cemetery and St Vincent de Paul Society. During his later years Don enjoyed playing many rounds of golf with his buddies. He also enjoyed having morning coffee at the Hart Street McDonald’s where he and many of his friends would solve the world problems! Don lived a long life where he observed and lived through many changes. He always said some were good changes and some were not so good.
Don married the love of his life, Marie Cecelia Kaiser, on October 27,1951. They spent almost 72 years as man and wife before Marie passed. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers, Ralph of Decatur, Robert of Vincennes, Norman of Virginia Beach, and Richard of Vincennes. Survivors include his daughter Brenda Cates and his son Darrell Biggs (Tammy). Also he is survived by 3 grandsons Steven Quarterman, Dylan Cates, and Dalton Biggs. He also leaves behind 9 great grand kids. Also survived a brother Gerald of Tulsa, OK and a sister Rita Lavely of Vincennes.
Don took great pride in his family, especially his great grandchildren these last few months! He still enjoyed the outdoors and mowing his own lawn at time up until this last summer. He could be found in a golf cart enjoying the ride at the golf course with his buddies when he could no longer physically golf. He attended Mass every chance he got and watched Mass on EWTN when he couldn’t physically attend.
A memorial visitation will be held at St. Johns Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 24th. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 am with the Funeral Mass being held at 11:00am. There will be a meal served after the Mass at the Parish Center. Memorial donations may be made to St Vincent de Paul, St Francis Xavier Parish improvement fund or Mount Calvary Cemetery Improvement fund.
