After a hearing in Knox Circuit Court on Thursday, a Vincennes man accused of rape is back in jail awaiting trial.
Following a mistrial, the attorney for 54-year-old Jack Washington Jr. requested that his client be released.
Washington was being held on a $50,000 cash only bond.
Knox Circuit Court Judge Monica Gilmore then modified the bond and placed him in work release.
At that time, Chief Deputy Prosecutor Mike Steiner told the Court that he believed work release was a “bad idea.”
Carnahan later requested a hearing to present evidence concerning bond.
Following a hearing on Thursday, Judge Gilmore placed the defendant back in jail and reinstated his $50,000 cash only bond. However, Jail records now show Washington being held without bond.
A new jury trial has been scheduled for June 30th.
