Knox County Republican voters will be busy casting votes in May for various primary election candidates. The registration deadline expired at noon Friday.
The top Knox County Republican race is for Sheriff, with four men running. The candidates include Mike Fisher, Dan Short, Paul Jones, and John Fuller. Brian Hagen is the lone Democrat registered for the primary.
Three of the four Knox County Council district seats are being contested. The biggest race is in District 3, where three are running—including incumbent Jay Yochum, and challengers Kelley Hopwood and Brett Dawson. In District One, incumbent Mary Crismore faces Terry Vieck. In District 4, it will be Rob French taking on Brandy Toney.
The District 4 Republican winner will be the Republican nominee to replace Rich Chattin. Chattin is running in the Knox County Commissioner’s Republican primary; his opponent there is Matt Hoffman. Three are running for Knox County’s Republican Assessor’s nomination; they include Ovi Ciceu, Zac Harper, and Woody Woodward. In the Knox County Recorder’s primary, Vickie Bottoms faces Blake Wilson.
Two Statehouse races have primary challenges—both for Republicans. In State Senate District 39, it will be Tanner Bouchie, Kristi Risk, and Jeff Ellington up for nomination. In House District 45, incumbent Bruce Borders will rematch for the nomination against Kellie Streeter.
Knox County Democrats have one primary race, as four candidates try to win the nomination for 8th District Representative. The candidates areMary Allen, Mario Foraden, Christoper Rector, and Tabitha Ziegler. The winner will face incumbent Republican Mark Messmer in the general election.
The Indiana Primary is set for Tuesday, May fifth.
