After 75 years of operation, the Daviess County Fair has officially retired.
A statement on the fair’s Facebook page says the decision was reached after extensive discussion and careful consideration of the ongoing challenges involved in continuing the fair.
It also says that in recent years, the lack of community support, significant volunteer shortages, increased difficulty securing carnival operators, and an environment where negativity consistently outweighed positive engagement made it no longer sustainable to continue responsibly.
The statement says the decision is final, and the fair board will not engage in further public debate regarding this matter.
