Elected Democrats in Indiana say the state needs to do a better job of helping families deal with rising costs.
They are proposing the repeal of Indiana’s seven-percent sales tax on residential utility bills as well as increasing state funding for childcare programs, noting families face a “cost-of-living crisis.”
House Minority Leader Phil GiaQuinta of Fort Wayne says Hoosiers “are getting nickeled and dimed to death,” and adds public policy should not insult people by suggesting their household budget outlook is their fault.
Democrats say Governor Braun’s decision to not enroll any more kids into taxpayer-funded child care until 2027 is the wrong move.
