The Knox County Salvation Army is grateful to the public for increasing their giving for their cause during the just finished kettle campaign. Knox County Salvation Army commander Joey Gates says the community reached 90 percent of the group’s kettle goal for this year. The percentage was well ahead of last year’s numbers; a year ago, the County Salvation Army only collected around 60 percent of its goal. Gates also credits the community for volunteering to ring the bells this season, with over 500 volunteer hours filled at various Knox County locations.
As is typically the case, many of the donations came in either just before Christmas, or in various government and civic challenges. The challenges caused two groups to ring against each other, in an effort to raise the most in their Salvation Army kettles over a certain time period.
