Anita Ryan, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on December 15, 2025, at the age of 76 in Petersburg, Indiana. She was born on April 8, 1949, in McAllen, Texas. Anita’s strong faith and generous spirit brought joy to those around her throughout her life.
Anita’s legacy is carried on through her loving family. She is survived by her children: Dawn Angermeier (Tom), Christina Ryan, and Angelica DeGrasse (Nathan). She also leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter as Nani to her seven grandchildren: Daniel Ryan, Xavier Ryan, Lance Capozella, Glenn Capozella, Jacob Capozella, Isaiah DeGrasse (Bella), and Mackenzie DeGrasse. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren, who were the lights of her life: Nicole Ryan, Emma Ryan, Ayzlei Burns, Lily Connizzo, Liam Connizzo, and Elijah DeGrasse. Anita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Ryan, and her daughter, Glenda Capozella, whose memories remain etched in the hearts of those who knew them.
In 1972, Anita married the love of her life, Richard, and together they embarked on a journey filled with love, raising their family. After receiving her Associate’s Degree, she worked at the Occupational Development Center (later known as the Employment and Training Center) at Vincennes University, where she touched the lives of countless colleagues and individuals through her guidance and mentorship.
Anita’s interests painted a picture of a woman deeply connected to her faith and to her family. When she wasn’t writing her morning devotionals, she could be found creating beautiful scrapbook pages and albums to preserve the memories of the family she loved so deeply. Above all, it was the simple joys of spending time with her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren that filled Anita’s days with delight. They all appreciated her delicious homemade tortillas, tacos, and enchiladas in addition to loving playing games with her and hearing her read them stories.
A steadfast congregant of Monroe City First Church of God, Anita’s faith was a guiding light in her life, inspiring others through her commitment to her community and her unwavering belief. Her strength, faith, hope, kindness, and love set a powerful example for all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Anita Ryan’s journey on earth may have ended, but her spirit remains an indelible force, encouraging us all to live with love, intention, and a profound appreciation for the treasured moments we share. Anita’s presence will be forever missed, yet endlessly felt.
