Claude Leon Perkinson Jr., a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on December 3, 2025, in Linton, Indiana. He was born in Scottsburg, Indiana, on November 26, 1944, to the late Claude Leon Sr. and Alice Louise “Abbott” Perkinson.
A veteran who served his country with honor, Claude was known for his loyalty and dedication, having served in the Army during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he contributed to the community as a coal miner before his career evolved into becoming a respected federal mine inspector. Claude’s commitment to his work was second only to his devotion to his beloved wife, Patricia “Redmond” Perkinson, whom he married on April 2, 1971, and together they built a full and meaningful life until her passing.
Claude found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His love for baseball was only matched by his fondness for maintaining his meticulously mowed yard, a task he considered both a hobby and a source of great pride. However, the cornerstone of his life was undoubtedly his family, who received the fullest measure of his love and devotion.
He leaves behind a loving family that includes his children, Mike Anderson (Michele) of South Bend, Chris Anderson of Sullivan, Julie Perkinson (significant other Chad Smith) of Sullivan, Janet Kroencke (Bret) of Champaign, Ryan Perkinson (Leslie) of Sullivan; his adoring grandchildren, Ian, Alex, Henry, Jocy (Kade), Carrie, Kate, and Nick; and the joys of his later years, his great-grandchildren Baylor and Benjamin. His siblings, Patty Davidson of Greenwood, IN, Pamela Alvis of Vincennes, IN, Susie Hawkins (Rodney) of Vincennes, IN, Bobbie Anderson (Bryce) of Vincennes, IN, Ronnie Perkinson (Paulette) of Carlisle, IN, Richard Perkinson (Starla) of Vincennes, IN, Peggy Perkinson of Vincennes, IN. Claude was preceded in passing by his beloved wife Patricia, his parents, and his sister, Vicki Kirchoff.
As we commemorate the life of Claude Leon Perkinson Jr., we reflect on a man defined by his strength, his unwavering work ethic, and his deep, enduring love for those he held dear. His legacy is etched in the hearts of his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Although he has departed from this world, his memory will forever be remembered by those who loved him dearly.
