Martha Jane “Steffy” Williams, affectionately known as Aunt Jane, passed away on November 3, 2025, at the age of 103. She was born on February 14, 1922, in Vincennes, Indiana at her family home.
Martha graduated from Fritchton High School.
During World War II, Martha worked as riveter for Republic Aviation Corporation in Evansville, Indiana, where she helped build P-47 Thunderbolt fighter airplanes for the Army Air Force. She was a real-life “Rosie the Riveter”. During that time she met Leo Williams who served in the United States Army. They were married on July 17, 1946.
Aunt Jane leaves behind: her nephew, Joseph Lee Steffy (Jan) of Bruceville, IN; her nieces, Pamela Kay Allen of Bicknell, IN, Lorrie Ann Tabelman (Rob) of Bicknell, IN and Judith Horton (Stan) of Florissant, MO; Also many great and great-great-nieces and nephews and several cousins.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Williams, her parents, Joseph McClure Steffy and Thelma Edith (Davis) Steffy; her brother, Joseph Earl “Bud” Steffy; her sister-in-law, Wanda Ruth (Downey) Steffy; Nephew-in-law James Allen, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
