The first of a set of discussions on a potential wheel tax came before the Knox County Council yesterday in Vincennes.
Among those commenting on the public hearing is Knox County Commissioner Kellie Streeter. Streeter came out against the wheel tax, despite the lack of a guarantee for road funding. Her opposition started when the idea was coming through the Legislature earlier this year. Streeter wanted funding counties and others used from the EDIT account to count toward their contribution to state road funding. However, her proposal was turned down in favor of the current proposal.
County Council president Mike Morris expects more public discussion before the issue even comes up for any type of vote. Also, Morris expects no vote consideration on the wheel tax any time soon.
