Gayle Ruth Richter Perkins, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and treasured friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 71 in Vincennes, Indiana, on October 24, 2025. Born on September 11, 1954, to the late Carolyn Kirchoff Richter and Herman Richter, Gayle lived her entire life with a heart full of dedication to her family, her community of Freelandville.
On July 5, 1975, in Freelandville, Gayle married the love of her life, Terence “Terry” Perkins of Oaktown. Together, they shared fifty wonderful years of marriage, each year deepening their bond and creating a legacy of love that would forever be the foundation of their family. Gayle’s devotion to her family shone through in every aspect of her life, particularly in her cherished role as a mother to Tracee Rode (Jeff) of Bruceville, and Brandee Davis (Bill) of Vincennes. Gayle’s love and support blossomed further still with her adoration for her grandchildren in her role as G.G.—Kaelyn, Kambric, Klouser, Krawford Rode, Brixton, and Brinxley Davis—whom she loved more than words can say.
Not one to be idle, Gayle channeled her energy into a variety of roles throughout her career. She poured her heart into every job she held, whether it was empowering young minds as a substitute teacher, ensuring accuracy and efficiency while reading meters for R.E.M.C., showcasing her skills as a talented seamstress, or assisting on the family farm as a grain cart operator. Her hardworking nature was matched by her generous spirit, which was evident through her dedicated service as a 4-H leader.
Faith played an essential role in Gayle’s life, as she was a lifelong member of Bethel Church, where she also served on the church council. Her devotion to her faith was reflective of the way she lived—leading by example and always extending a helping hand.
Among her varied interests, Gayle had a passion for horses, which was more than just a hobby—it was a way to connect with life’s simple wonders. Her garden was a testament to her patience and nurturing spirit, with every blossom a vibrant reminder of her presence. Traveling brought Gayle immense pleasure, as she treasured the opportunity to explore new places and create lasting memories. Yet, nothing compared to the joy she felt while spending time with her family and cheering on her grandchildren at all school events.
Gayle is also lovingly remembered by her siblings, Garland Richter (Lisa) of Oaktown, and Joe Richter (Marlene) of Wabash. Their bond, forged through shared childhood memories and life experiences, remains unbreakable, as it is now woven into the fabric of the many stories and moments they shared with Gayle.
In every heart she touched and every life she enriched, Gayle’s legacy will live on—not just as a memory, but as an enduring influence that will continue to guide and inspire. Her radiant smile and the love she so freely gave will be missed, but the impact of her presence will be felt for generations to come.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025 at Bethel Church from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Service to follow on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 10:00 AM also at Bethel Church to be officiated by Pastor Bryan Taylor. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
