Mariann “Spangle” Hulen, age 87, of Bicknell, Indiana, passed away August 13, 2025, at Good Samaritan in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born on November 19, 1937, in Bicknell, Indiana, to Edward and Hilda “Richter” Spangle.
Mariann graduated from Sandborn High School in 1955. She furthered her career, graduating from Vincennes University School of Nursing in 1958. Mariann would become a hard-working and dedicated nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital. On August 9, 1969, she married Farrell Hulen. They made their home in Bicknell, Indiana, with their children, Angela and Rick.
Mariann was of the Protestant faith, being confirmed in 1951 at Salem United Church in Westphalia, Indiana. She enjoyed lunch and fellowship with friends, discussing nursing school and the good old times. Mariann also enjoyed motorcycle trips with Farrell and their friends, as well as spending the winters on the beaches of Florida.
Mariann enjoyed cheering on IU in basketball as well as solving the puzzles of television game shows such as Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud. On Sundays, she loved watching Morgantown Mission Church, engaging in friendly fellowship with everyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Spangle (Jane). Mariann is survived by her beloved husband, Farrell, her two children, Angela “Hulen” Forby and Rick (Cindy) Hulen, her grandchildren, Ryan (Christa) Hulen, Keith Hulen, Jeremy Fleetwood, Mackenzie (Zack) Shoemaker, Amy Bryant Gaultney, Lariann (Wayne) Catt, and Rick Hutchins, her nephews, Brian and Steve Spangle, her great-grandchildren, Branch Shoemaker, Jaxon Hulen, Jazlyn Hulen, Alexis McGraw, Jasmine Hulen, Braxton Catt, Tyler Bunte, Jordy Cook, Drake Ervin, Kyla Catt, Dakota Lawrence, Guy Catt, McKenna Dillon, Spencer Rhoads, Kyle (Carly) Hutchins, and several great-great grandchildren.
There will be a service held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Bicknell Chapel, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Donnie Stafford.
