Roberta J. Utt, of Bruceville, IN, a cherished matriarch and pillar of her community, passed away on July 25, 2025, in Vincennes, IN, at the age of 94. Born on June 12, 1931, in Oaktown, IN, Roberta’s journey was rich with love, laughter, and dedication to those she loved.
Roberta was a proud graduate of Bruceville High School class of 1949, after which she embraced the role of a devoted farm wife. On April 8, 1950, she married Royce Eugene Utt, and together they cultivated not only the land but a family legacy at Royce Utt and Son Family Farms. Together, they sowed seeds of love and hard work that would blossom for generations.
A woman of faith and community, Roberta was a member of the Upper Indiana Presbyterian Church. Her involvement in church activities was a testament to her commitment to service and her friendly nature. She easily made connections with everyone she met, strengthening her community through both her actions and her loving spirit.
Roberta was the heart of her family, providing support, wisdom, and unwavering affection. She is survived by her loving daughter, Karen J. Decker (Mike) of Vincennes, IN; grandsons, Brandon Decker (Amy) of Bruceville, IN, and Kyle Decker (Kaley) of Bruceville, IN. Her legacy is further celebrated by her seven great-grandchildren, Brady, Brooks, Alan, Macie, Jaxson, Helena, and Maddox. A host of dear nieces, nephews, and cousins also remember her fondly.
Her passing was preceded by her beloved husband, Royce, her dear son, Michael Eugene Utt, and her parents, Elmer A. and Stella Mae “Girdler” Garner. She was also greeted in eternal rest by her siblings, Donald Ray Garner, Zella McClure, Gib Garner, Kenny Garner, and Russell Garner, each of whom had shared in the joy and journey of her life.
Roberta’s love for life extended to her hobbies. Her gardens were a reflection of her inner beauty, and she found joy in the simple pleasure of assembling puzzles. Riding her golf cart brought her freedom and delight, while spending time with her family encapsulated her deepest joy.
Roberta J. Utt lived a life synonymous with love, warmth, and community. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her radiant spirit remains a comforting and guiding light to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. We honor and celebrate Roberta’s extraordinary journey, even as we say farewell, knowing she has left an indelible mark on so many hearts.
