Indiana Governor Mike Braun has signed a new bill into law aimed at making healthcare costs clearer for Hoosiers. Co-authored by State Resentative Tony Isa, House Enrolled Act 1003 targets billing transparency.
The new law requires non-profit hospitals to follow “site of service” billing rules, protecting patients from unexpected extra fees. It also mandates that laboratories and imaging centers publicly post their prices and provide itemized bills. Additionally, the bill strengthens the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit’s power to investigate fraud and expands access to experimental treatments for patients facing life-threatening conditions.
