Byron Rush Sullivan, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 12, 2025, in Vincennes, Indiana, at the age of 85. Born on February 8, 1940, in Terre Haute, Indiana, Byron was a man whose presence was a source of constant joy and comfort to those who knew him.
Byron’s life was one of dedicated love and service. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Sondra “Boyd” Sullivan, whom he married on July 9, 1958, in Lawrenceville, Illinois. As a loving father to his children, Gloria Ann Arthur (Wendell) of Winter Haven, Florida, and Linda Sue Daugherty (Virgil) of Vincennes, Indiana, Byron instilled in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and unconditional support.
An adored patriarch, Byron’s legacy thrives through his eight grandchildren: Billie Jo Montes, Tondra Nagle, John (Bear) Summers, Jessica Harvin, Todd Parks, Bobbie Sue Dux, Tiffany Marshall, and Mary Ann Salmon, alongside a lineage of great and great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward his spirited nature. His life’s influence will also live on through his nephew, David Jones.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Esther Mae “Willis” Sullivan, his two brothers, two sisters, and his son, Jay Dee Sullivan. These familial bonds, though missed, forged the strength and compassion evident in Byron’s character.
Professionally, Byron was a well-respected foreman at Hoosier Gas, where his work ethic and hands-on skills were esteemed by all who worked alongside him. His educational journey may have reached its heights in high school, but the wisdom he imparted surpassed conventional learning.
A man of nature and camaraderie, Byron enjoyed the tranquility of hunting and the serenity found by the river. A member of the Eagles, he shared rich moments of fellowship that echoed the very essence of his friendly and handy personality.
