Sara Jane “McCarter” Hall, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on April 21, 2025, at the age of 79, in her hometown of Oaktown, Indiana. Born on December 29, 1945, to the late William Mac and Helen Josephine “Schulze” McCarter, Sara Jane’s life was a testament to the values of family, service, and community.
A true pillar of the Oaktown community, Sara Jane married the love of her life, Norman Joe Hall, on April 26, 1964, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey that lasted over 60 years. Together, they raised a family that grew to encompass not just their beloved children but also welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren into a legacy of love and guidance.
Sara Jane was a devoted mother to Candy Moody and Christopher Joe Hall (Brenda), both of Oaktown, IN. She was the adoring grandmother to Cara Thomas (companion Daniel Cardinal) of Oaktown, IN, Christopher James Hall (Brooke) of Shelburn, IN, Emilee Hall (companion Austin Chapman) of Vincennes, IN, Adam Moon (Allyson) of Oaktown, IN, Shelby Moody-Potwin (Miciah) of Oaktown, IN, and Cole Moody (companion Alyssa Stuller) of Oaktown, IN. She found immense joy in her 14 great-grandchildren, who brought boundless happiness and energy whenever they were around. Sara Jane was also a supportive sister to James P. McCarter of Alpharetta, GA, and Kevin McCarter (Dianne) of Orlando, FL. Sara Jane was predeceased by her parents and her son-in-law, Rusty Moody, but the beautiful memories created with them remain a comforting reminder of times cherished together.
As a dedicated clerk for the Recorder’s Office, Sara Jane served her community with diligence and cheer for over two decades. Her professional accomplishments were matched by her passion for involving herself wholeheartedly in the life of the community. She was an active and beloved member of Mariah Creek Christian Church and the Emmaus Community. Sara Jane also generously gave her time to the Oaktown food pantry, touching lives through acts of kindness until her illness called her to rest.
An advocate for lifelong learning, Sara Jane was proud to be part of the first graduating class of North Knox High School, a foundation that would support her roles in both work and service throughout her life. Sara Jane’s love for life shown through in her desire to savor every moment. Whether it was pursuing her love for cooking and baking, riding her bicycle through the country lanes, immersing herself in a good book, or spending valuable time with her family on vacations and travels, Sara Jane fully embraced the joys of life.
Sara Jane Hall’s influence was felt far and wide, and her spirit will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. As her loved ones and friends gather to celebrate her exceptional life, her legacy of love, dedication, and warmth will continue to inspire and guide them, reflecting the unforgettable mark she left on the world around her.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Mariah Creek Church, 9366 E. Oaktown Rd, Oaktown, IN 47561, with service following at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Matt Hoffman. Burial will be held at the Oaktown Cemetery.
