Indiana’s largest utility company has submitted a request to state regulators that they be allowed to raise energy rates. Duke Energy is asking the state to approve a 16-percent increase in what Hoosiers pay for power. That would add close to 30-dollars to the average monthly bill in Indiana.
A Duke Energy spokeswoman says the increase is needed to keep providing more services to customers. She said the increase will also help pay for new metal utility poles, which she said hold up better than wooden ones in bad weather.
