Knox County Sports Update for Tuesday, 5/23

(Softball Sectionals)

The South Knox Spartans saw their season come to an end, losing to Sullivan 18-2 in six innings in the first round of the Linton Class 2-A Softball Sectional.  Sullivan’s Kate Ridgeway tossed a one hitter, and came off the bat of Lily Culp.

Sullivan will meet Eastern Greene in tonight’s second semi -final.  The first game at six has 8-13 North Knox playing 15-12 Mitchell.  You can hear that game on WUZR 105.7fm.  Mitchell took out the host Miners in the first game 8-6.

At the Jasper 3-A Sectional, Seventh ranked Pike Central blanked Washington 5-0 while Jasper beat Southridge 7-4. So tonight, Pike Central will play Heritage Hills in the first game at 6:00, while game two has Jasper taking on Vincennes Lincoln. You can hear that game tonight at 8:00 on WZDM 92.1fm and wzdm.com.

At the Loogootee Class A Sectional, number two ranked Barr-Reeve beat Orleans 7-2.  Karlye Graber struckout 15 while hitting two home runs for the Vikings.  North Daviess trimmed Loogootee 5-4.

At the Forest Park 2-A Sectional,  Mater Dei eliminated Perry Central 8-3.

At the Gibson Southern Class 3-A Sectional, Princeton rolled over Bosse 15-1 and Boonville beat Mt Vernon 8-5.

And at the Class A Sectional at Wood Memorial, Northeast Dubois beat Cannelton 13-0.

(Tennis Regionals)

The South Knox Tennis team begins regional action tonight at Jasper.  The 20-0 Lady Spartans will square off against surprising Barr-Reeve.  The Vikings upset Loogootee 3-2 to claim the sectional crown.  South Knox already owns a 4-1 win over Barr-Reeve in its meeting back on May 4th.  The other semi-final has heavily favorite Jasper taking on North Daviess.  The two winners will meet on Wednesday.   Lincolns Payton Dugan begins individual sectional play on Wednesday at 5:30 against Lacy Hancock from Washington.

(Track Regionals)

The Girls High School Track Regional gets underway tonight at 6:00 at Evansville Central High School.  Knox County athletes participating include, from Vincennes Lincoln Maya Miller in the 100 Hurdles and Long Jump, Greer Hardin in the High Jump, and McKenna Poyser in the Pole Vault.

From South Knox, Aubrey Nowaskie in the 800-Meter run.  Nowaskie is seeded second in the event.  Shelby Burke in the Long Jump, Meredith Adams in the Shot Put AND the 1600- and 3200-Meter Relay Teams.  Representing North Knox are Hayden Coats in the 100-Meter Dash, Briley Utt in the Shot Put, and Reegan Hammelman in the 800-Meter Run. And from Vincennes Rivet it will be Lissa Willis in 100 and 300 Hurdles .

The Boys track Regional is on Thursday night.

The Lincoln Golf team beat North Knox 302-345.  Dusty Taylor had a 69 for the Alices.  Graham Reed a 76, Luke Lindsey a 77, Matt Pearison an 80 and Joshua Clegg an 84.
