Community members stepped up yesterday to donate coats, non-perishable food, and money for Coats for Kids. The annual drive was held during the day yesterday at the Brevoort House in downtown Vincennes. Overall, Coats for Kids brought in just under 300 coats for those in need, and just over two-thousand dollars in monetary donations. Also, the community provided several bags of non-perishable food items.
Volunteers collected the coats and items for later distribution. The Knox County Salvation Army is the group who will give out the coats. County Salvation Army commander Karla Salisbury describes the next steps in getting the donated coats ready is to get them cleaned and then distributed. The distribution process will be part of the Salvation Army’s Christmas application effort.
The Christmas application process starts later this month, and continues into November.
